Third Space Global is a company that is committed to creating a positive work environment which will help its employees achieve their goals and targets. This is expressed through several leadership programmes and continuous professional development workshops offered by the company. One of the most recent initiatives aimed at uplifting its employees was its very own signature programme – LEAD. One of the active participants of the programme, Wasana Perera - Senior Executive, had this to share about her experience with LEAD.
LEAD was one of the two main signature programmes that were introduced in August. The main focus of this initiative was to finetune the leadership skills of the emerging Leaders in TSG by providing outbound training sessions, professional development webinars and as a crowning stroke, an assessing strategy to keep the sessions more engaging and interactive. This helped the participants to showcase how much progress they had made throughout the event
Even though my journey at TSG started 6 years ago, there were several colleagues within the company that I hadn’t previously worked with. This programme did not just bring us together but also helped us learn a great deal about the work each of us carries out, and brought us closer as a tightly-knit family of TSG. This all started with the kickoff event organised at the Kitulgala borderlands, an outbound training that was one of the key events I enjoyed the most, as adventure-wrapped training sessions have always been my cup of coffee
Some of the main concepts covered during this training were problem-solving and decision-making, the wheel of a cycle, self-development, managing different personalities, managing difficult situations and prioritisation skills. After having such an amazing experience through this training, I realised that several areas in my life require me to incorporate certain valuable traits. “Wheel of life” added so much merit and meaning to my life, accompanied by the rest of the sessions that were very intensive and added much value to the role I currently play in the company
Even though I referred to the Assessment module as the crowning stroke of the programme, it was also the most arduous of the tasks. As we were grouped with employees from different departments within the company, this paved the way for us to identify the unique talents and skills of each other. Our objective was to solve one of the current pain points of the organisation. This was very perceptive as it cut the first turf for us to understand the hard work that goes into maintaining this organisation with minimal problems. One of the biggest challenges for us as a team was to find a mutual time that worked for us all amidst day-to-day responsibilities. But this is where team play came into action. We motivated each other and kept going, and were able to successfully present our final accomplishment to the wider audience!
Looking back and reminiscing the wonderful experience I gained through this programme is explicable, but this event indeed moulded me into a new person, so extending my gratitude to the TSG management, HR team and of course, Shiyamal Jayathileka (CEO) and the other stakeholders involved is the only fair way to conclude. Additionally, special thanks to Fahad Farook for organising this extraordinary event and for being there, guiding us throughout.
Robert Frost once said, “The poem begins with delight and ends in wisdom”. I’d say “‘The signature lead began with delight and ended in wisdom’”.
